What Does St. Francis Prep's Chaplain Reverend William F. Sweeney Know About Accused Sex Abuser Brother Dominic Quigley?

For the record, investigating is a lot easier when you have help. In the last few days, I received the NY and CA addresses for former SFP principal Br. Michael Moran, as well as his email address, and many current pictures of him. I also received the name of a now famous criminal reporter who wrote an expose about Moran in 1983, shortly after he left his position as chaplain of Hofstra University (which is where he went to work directly after he was arrested for child molestation while he was principal of St. Francis Prep in 1980).

I also received the following two screenshots of emails sent over a year ago to Father William F. Sweeney about Br. Dominic Quigley. These were apparently sent to Fr. Bill in September, 2013:

Interestingly, someone also sent me the name of the boy mentioned in this email who allegedly complained about Br. Dom in 2004 and withdrew from the school, as well as the name of the boy's cousin, who graduated in 2005.

I am not aware of any 2006 graduates who may have complained about Br. Dom.

The person who sent me the above email also told me that the email was not kicked back, so this person is assuming Father Bill received it. If Father Bill received it, I wonder what he did with it. Did he give it to Br. Leonard? Did he give it to the Bishop to investigate, since Br. Dom was working as a sacristan with Father Bill at American Martyrs in Bayside?  I guess time will tell.

I can tell you that one of the men who contacted me as a St. Francis Prep sexual abuse victim messaged Father Bill on Facebook and told him his story. This man's family has been good friends with Father Bill for years. The message sent to Father Bill is marked read, but the man received no response. Weeks have gone by since this message was sent. I really can't see the harm in a priest saying "I'm sorry for your pain, I wish you much peace" or something of that nature, especially considering the longstanding relationship this man's family has had with Father Bill.

It's a shame. It really is.

UPDATE: Within minutes of this blog being posted, an SFP alum who was friends with the boy who complained to the administration about Br. Dom sexually assaulting him in 2004 confirmed the incident discussed in the above email. He also confirmed the boy's name.

UPDATE 2: 10/9/2014 - I spoke with Queens, NY Special Victims Bureau Assistant District Attorney Ken Applebaum, who is handling the Br. Dominic Quigley investigation. Two more men contacted him directly to report that they were abused by Br. Dom. Mr. Applebaum would like anyone abused by Br. Dom to contact him at 718-286-6527.

When in Rome (Or Not): The Brother Dominic Quigley Timeline

In light of the student sexual abuse allegations reported in The Daily News here,

St. Francis Prep Teacher Br. Dominic Quigley Accused of Sexual Abuse

many St. Francis Prep alumni are inquiring why Br. Dominic Quigley left St. Francis Prep in 2004, after having taught there for 33 years.

Well, I have been working on a Br. Dominic Quigley timeline, so the purpose of this blog is to let readers know what I've found.

First, let's make it clear that the young man discussed in the link above alleges he had a sexual relationship with Br. Dom in 2003. This young man graduated in 2004. He did not report the relationship to the administration. I learned about the relationship from an alum who graduated with him. The first "reporting" happened in mid-September, when I sent documentation to the diocese to make them aware of the allegations. They removed Br. Dom from American Martyrs that same day. By the way, this young man is 100% on board with doing whatever is necessary to make sure Br. Dom is never around children again. I thank God every day for him and applaud his courage.

This begs the question, why did Br. Dom decide to leave St. Francis Prep in 2004? This is what St. Francis Prep told everyone was happening with Br. Dom:

I have some news for you. This never happened. Br. Dom never went to work for the Franciscan headquarters in Rome for any extended period of time. How do I know? I contacted them.

Here's my emails:

So, it looks like he was with the Franciscans in Rome for a few days in 2004, and possibly a few days in Assisi in 2005. So where did he go for two years? There is a big, gaping two year hole in his LinkedIn profile:

If anyone knows where he was or what he was doing during that period, I would appreciate it if you would either comment on this blog or send an email to hell@burnandrotinhell.com.

Since I published the September 18th blog (Atomic Blog) two teachers contacted me to tell me that in 2004, a young man reported to the St. Francis Prep administration that Br. Dom tried to kiss him. They both said the young man wound up withdrawing from SFP and not graduating. I am looking into these allegations at the present moment.

In 2006, Brother Dom resurfaced and began to work at Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn. He worked there for 4 years, and then began to teach at St. Francis College. I wonder why after his extended leave he did not return to SFP, since that had been his "home" for so long.

I am pretty confident that I will get some answers to all these questions soon. The reason I am so optimistic is that a very special alum granted me a wish. This graduate has offered to pay for a full 30 year investigation of St. Francis Prep. I am absolutely ecstatic about this. All I need to do from my end is pass on the documentation I have compiled so that the chosen investigation firm has a good starting point. I think a good starting point would be early 1980, when former St. Francis Prep principal Br. Michael Moran was taken out of the school in handcuffs and arrested for child molestation.

I am very grateful for this offer as I must confess that I need the help at this point. I do not have the resources on my own to dig deeper. This firm, I am told, has contacts in the CIA, FBI, NCMEC, and law enforcement agencies across the country.

I think the coming weeks will be very, very interesting. Do you?
